Upcoming Zazenkai (full day sit), Saturday, June 4, 2005
The
Kannon Zendo will be offering a zazenkai (day-long meditation
retreat) on Saturday, June 3 at 35 Barranca Road in Los Alamos from 8:00 a.m. to
approx. 4:30 p.m., followed by tea (Directions). Anyone wishing to join the retreat should
contact Henry Chigen Finney at 661-6874, or via email at info@kannonzendo.org.
Relative beginners are welcome. Those planning to attend are asked to come
to the orientation on Friday evening, June 3, starting at 7:00 p.m..
If you are
completely new to Zen meditation, we also suggest you first attend some of our regular
thursday evening sits. Following the
orientation, which includes oriyoki (formal meal) instruction, there will also be a service rehearsal for those
interested in helping with the service; this rehersal is also open to any who wish to
follow along. Cost of the retreat is $35 for the full day or $25 for a half day.
Advance registration is required.
The retreat is silent and includes approximately six thirty-minute periods of
meditation, a Zen service, a work period, a talk, oriyoki lunch (provided), a
short rest period, an open interview, and a concluding question-and-answer
period. Meditation cushions are provided.
We
urge
you to take advantage of this opportunity to deepen your meditation practice. It
will take you far beyond our usual weekly sit. These one-day sits are also an
effective preparation for longer retreats (sesshins).
